Key dates for Ramadan 2027

Islamic months follow the moon, so every date below is an estimate until the moon is sighted. Plan around them, and leave a day either side.

  • Ramadan begins: around Monday 8 February 2027.
  • The last ten nights: from around the evening of 27 February.
  • The 27th night: around the evening of 5 March, the night many donors seek as Laylat al-Qadr.
  • Eid al-Fitr: around 9 or 10 March 2027. Zakat al-Fitr is due before the Eid prayer.

Start eight to ten weeks before

The appeals that do best are ready before the month starts. Working back from 8 February:

  1. Early December: agree the goal, the audiences and the campaign idea.
  2. Mid December to January: make the creative, build or fix the donation pages and Zakat journeys, and test them on phones.
  3. Late January: warm up your supporters with a preview of what is coming, and switch on the media.
  4. The month itself: watch the numbers daily and change what isn’t working.
  5. Eid and after: thank donors within a day, and plan how to keep them.

Plan the month as five moments

Ramadan is not one moment. Donors behave differently across the month, so each phase deserves its own message and its own ask.

  • The run-up: remind supporters, introduce the appeal and invite early Zakat.
  • The first days: the spirit of the month is fresh and attention is high.
  • The middle weeks: keep the story moving with updates and new faces.
  • The last ten nights: the peak. Offer a way to spread a gift across every night, and put extra effort into the odd nights.
  • Eid: thank, celebrate and show what the gifts will do.

Make Zakat simple

Many donors pay their Zakat in Ramadan, and many are unsure how to work it out. A clear Zakat page wins trust and gifts:

  • Explain who must pay, on what, and how much, in plain words.
  • Offer a calculator that leads straight to the donation form.
  • Say clearly which projects are Zakat-eligible and how Zakat money is kept separate.
  • Give Zakat al-Fitr its own simple page, with the deadline before the Eid prayer.

One idea, everywhere

In a month full of appeals, one strong idea carried everywhere beats ten different messages. For the International Waqf Fund’s Ramadan 2026 appeal, the whole campaign rested on a single before-and-after image of the same land, with the line “A Sadaqah Jariyah that lasts”. Banners, stories, the leaflet and even the packaging all grew from it.

Choose your idea early, test it with a few supporters, then use it on every channel without diluting it.

Fix the donation page before you spend on media

Every pound of media is wasted if the donation page loses people. Before Ramadan, check that your page:

  • loads in under two seconds on a phone;
  • offers Apple Pay and Google Pay up front;
  • lets donors give daily across the month or across the last ten nights;
  • makes Gift Aid one tick;
  • asks for nothing it doesn’t need.

Our guide to donation page best practices covers the full list.

Spend where giving peaks

Weight your media budget towards the moments when people give most: the first days, the weekends and the last ten nights, with extra on the odd nights. Use search to catch donors looking for Zakat and Ramadan giving, and retarget people who started a gift but didn’t finish.

After Eid: keep the new donors

Ramadan brings in donors you won’t hear from again unless you act. Thank every donor within a day, send a real update on what their gift is doing within a few weeks, and invite them to give monthly before the next season comes round.

Checklist

  • Goal, audiences and idea agreed by mid December
  • Donation page tested on phones, with wallets and daily giving
  • Zakat page and calculator live
  • Creative for each of the five moments
  • Media plan weighted to the last ten nights
  • Thank-you and follow-up journeys ready before Eid
